On Friday, March 18th, Rachel Pownall’s inaugural lecture for Maastricht University took place at the Minderbroedersberg. Rachel already was professor at TIAS business school, where she holds the art & finance chair. Her inaugural lecture for TIAS, an affiliation of Tilburg University, can be found here.
Rachel’s inaugural in Maastricht took place during the MACCH Annual conference 2016. Rachel is the first professor of arts & finance in the world. She argues that along with economic (monetary) values also social and cultural values should be included in financial decisions. By increasing investments in art facilities, museums, cultural enterprises and the creative industry, people’s quality of life can be increased. This will in the end result in less risk and thus costs, for example in health-care. Curious about Rachel’s speech? Skip to minute 37 in the video below and watch the whole lecture!
